The creation of this journal is a result of discussions of the four founding Editors who have worked together in several occasions during the last years trying to couple issues on history of cartography and maps with a variety of possibilities offered by the new digital information and communication technologies. The founding editors hold the copyright of the journal. An international group of senior scientists who share the aims and scopes of the journal is forming the list of Consulting editors. The Associate editors, all from the newer generation, are coming from academic, research and cultural institutions and are all working, in various ways, on topics affined to the main stream of the journal's objectives. The Executive editor together with the Assistants to the editor support the editors in keeping the journal's readiness.
